Turning a Quarter of a Century

Category: Daily Life Posted by Maisie on Oct 31, 07

I’m turning 25 today. That’s a quarter of a century. Man, I’m getting old! Here are some thoughts about now being 25.

  • I can now rent a car without getting charged extra
  • I still feel like I’m 22, which is great!
  • If I had seen myself where I am now, 5 years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it
  • I’m incredibly blessed to be this age and have a husband who loves me so much and will stand by me regardless (and got me these beautiful roses)
  • I’m also blessed to be able to have a healthy pregnancy
  • I’m the same amount as a US quarter
  • Only five more years before the big three-O
  • I think for some reason being 25 gives you more professional respect

That’s all I can think of right now. Some say turning 25 is the beginning of getting old, but I don’t see it that way. These are the years of my life that I’ve looked forward to since I was a teenager. Having a husband, a home, a career and a baby on the way. It’s all good!

Babies R Us has Serious Issues

Category: Baby News Posted by Maisie on Oct 28, 07

As I expected, more drama at Babies R Us today. We were there to purchase the crib and changing table today since we had coupons that were valid today. When we went to the furniture desk to order the crib we had picked out a month ago they informed us that not only was it not in stock, it wasn’t in the Babies R Us warehouse in Washington DC. They also had no idea when it would become available again.

We picked out three more cribs, two of which were also unavailable and unknown when they would become available. The last crib we picked out was available (thank goodness). We decided to get the changing table somewhere else since the quality of the one we had originally picked out looked a little shoddy, and everything else seemed to be priced quite high.

So here’s a question for the management of Babies R Us, wouldn’t it be better to only show items on the floor that are actually available for purchase, or maybe say, “Currently Unavailable”, then update your systems so that customers know when things will become available?

One good thing that come out of our two hour stay at Babies R Us, we found out that our glider had just gone on clearance, so we were able to get some money back from that purchase (though that whole process seemed to take quite a long time).

I found a changing table at Walmart which will match the crib and hopefully we don’t have to go back to Babies R Us again!

Third Time’s a Charm

Category: Baby News Posted by Maisie on Oct 26, 07

I’ve noticed that the traffic on my blog goes up quite significantly on Friday afternoons. Probably ’cause all you people checking my blog are just killing time (like I do) on Friday afternoons, and just waiting for the weekend to start. So in an effort to keep my audience informed and entertained, here’s my post for this Friday…

Babies R Us has FINALLY gotten my glider order correct. This would be their third try. Today the correct and complete glider was delivered. Now Luke has a weekend project…put the glider together and make sure no parts are missing. This weekend is also the weekend when I’ll have to place my order for the crib and changing table. This means another trip down to Babies R Us, and hopefully they’ll get my order right on the first try.

The weather here in Florida is starting to cool down which is a nice change. It’s currently cloudy and 75 degrees. A nice break from the sunny, 90+ degrees were were having.

By the way folks, my 25th birthday is on Halloween (this coming Wednesday). Feel free to send presents my way =)

Julie’s Wedding and CO Trip

Category: Travel & Trips Posted by Maisie on Oct 22, 07

We’re back from our vacation to good old Colorado! It started with a crazy weekend packed with wedding activities for Julie’s wedding. (Yes the back-up dress did fit) At the wedding, I saw so many old friends that I haven’t seen in years! Turns out that quite a few are pregnant as well. You can see more photos of the wedding by clicking here to view my dotphoto page.

After seeing off the new Mr. and Mrs. Briggs, we headed up to Fort Collins to visit with old friends and spend sometime by ourselves exploring what Northern Colorado had to offer. I forget how beautiful Colorado is, both the weather and scenery. It makes it hard to come back to Florida every time I visit Colorado. We drove through Poudre Canyon and saw some awesome places to camp and go kayaking there.

We also drove through Horsetooth Reservoir, which is just outside of Fort Collins in the middle of the foothills. This also seemed like an ideal spot to camp, go fishing, or ride jet skis. Guess we’ll have to go back to do all those “outdoorsy” things that seemed so cool. It was also great to see friends in Fort Collins, one of which I hadn’t seen in close to 5 years.

We headed to Denver for our last night in Colorado, and woke up the next morning to see snow on the ground. This was quite the shock since the last week it had been in the 60s and 70s. It was Denver’s first snow of the season, which meant that flights were delayed and we didn’t get back until late at night. I’m sad to be back in Florida.

Stupid Babies R Us

Category: Baby News Posted by Maisie on Oct 10, 07

I would like to take this post to gripe a little about Babies R Us. First of all, the closest Babies R Us is about 20-30 minutes away from our house. About a month and a half ago, we purchased a glider and ottoman from this Babies R Us. 2 weeks later they called to let us know that it had come in. We drove down to the store to pick it up, only to find out that the the glider had not been delivered, but only a replacement part for a glider. We asked them to reorder the glider and deliver it for free to our house since we didn’t want to make another trip down to the store.

After about an hour in the store and dealing with grumpy, incompetent employees they said it was ordered and would be delivered to our house in about 3 weeks. Yesterday, a delivery was made…but still no glider. Yes, it was yet another replacement part for a glider we have yet to see. Not only was that wrong, the entire box had been ripped apart and there was a huge gash on the replacement part. Obviously we rejected the delivery.

I got on the phone with Babies R Us and explained our situation and asked if there was a way I could go to a store that had the glider in stock and pick it up so that this mistake wouldn’t happen again. 10 minutes later, an employee calls me back and said that the manufacturer had no idea when a glider would be able to be shipped and that my best option was to get my money back and purchase another glider from the store.

Drama, drama…all I want is a freakin’ glider! Hopefully I can find another comfy glider and not have any more trouble. I wonder what will happen when I go to order my crib and changing table…

Second Trimester Reflections

Category: Baby News Posted by Maisie on Oct 05, 07

I’m just 4 days away from making it into my third trimester. Everyone’s been telling me that the second trimester is the most comfortable part of pregnancy, and they are sure right!

First trimester, I was tired and nauseous. Second trimester, I was pretty comfortable. I had lots of energy and my belly wasn’t too big. Now going into my third trimester, my belly keeps getting bigger and bigger, and at the end of the day I have sharp pains in my back from sitting in front of the computer. It’s also harder now to get comfortable at night. I’m sure Luke doesn’t appreciate me taking up 2/3 of the bed with my big belly and body pillow.

I’ve also started to experience those “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” moments. It’s getting more difficult to get myself off the couch, out of bed and off the floor. Good thing Luke’s always around to lend a helping hand…literally.
