The Things Kids Say
This weekend Luke, Izzy and I were at Super Target for groceries. Izzy was in the sling as usual. As we were walking through one of the aisles we passed a mom with her 5 or 6 year old daughter. The little girl saw Izzy in the sling and said, “Oh, what a cute baby!” Then continued on to ask, “Can I pet your baby?”…..!!!! I laughed so hard, while the girl’s mortified mother said, “No you cannot PET the baby! She’s not a dog!”
HILARIOUS! That’s definitely a first for me!
Sleepy Izzy
This past week has been a great sleeping week for the entire family! At the beginning of the week Izzy was waking up twice at night and pretty much sleeping for 12 hours at night. The past few nights have been even better! On Tuesday she slept from 8pm to 2:30am and went back to sleep until 8am. Wednesday, from 8pm to 3am then until 8am. Then last night from 8pm until 6am, then until 8am. Amazing! I don’t know if this will be a continuing habit, but I’ve sure loved having a good night’s sleep the past few nights. This picture here is of Izzy sleeping on the Boppy pillow after she fell asleep nursing…so sleepy…
Smiles and Laughter
I know I’ve written a lot about Izzy crying, screaming and needing to be held. However, there are definitely times during the day when she’s happy, content, smiling and laughing. Those times brings joy to my heart and makes me laugh and smile as well. I was able to capture some of these moments today…and yes, she does have two dimples!
Almost 8 Weeks!
This is Izzy lounging in her crib. I can now actually put her down for 15-20 minutes in her crib with her mobile going without her crying. However she gets lonely and screams for someone to come pick her up. Izzy will be two months old in just a few days. She’s now getting more head control and you can tell her lungs are getting bigger cause her crys are getting louder. She’s growing up before our eyes!
While Izzy’s growing, I’m shrinking…slowly but surely! They say nine months up, and nine months down, however I’d like all that baby weight to be gone now!! Today, I met with a client, and had the hardest time finding something that would fit. Maternity clothes are too big, pre-pregnancy clothes are too small. After an hour of trying things on I finally found something that worked. Oh, how I long for the day when I’m my normal size again.
Finally a Routine
Ah, this week has been good, nice and predictable! Isabelle is back on a schedule, which has made it easier for me to plan my day. Here’s how my days usually go now.
2:00am Feed Izzy
6:00am Feed Izzy
8:30am Feed Izzy
9:00-12:00pm Wearing Izzy while checking email, running errands or cleaning
12:00pm Feed Izzy
1:00-4:00pm Izzy naps while I work and start dinner
4:00pm Feed Izzy
5:00pm Family walk or park time with Samson
6:00pm Grown up dinner time
7:30pm Feed Izzy
8:00pm Izzy to bed
REPEAT!!
Pictures
Okay folks! Some of you have been asking for more pictures of little Izzy, so here you go! We had a photo session this morning in the nursery. She was quite happy to pose for the camera for about 15 minutes. I can see her growing up before my eyes. She’s now just about 11 pounds and is trading in her newborn diapers for size 1. She’s also finally fitting in to all her 0-3 month clothes, but I’m sure before long she’ll be onto the next size up.
This picture of Izzy is how she spends most of the day…in the wrap, usually sleeping…
Hi Ho, it’s off to work I go…
Today is my official first day back on the job. However, I’m going to have to see how it goes and how much work I’m actually able to get done. I’ve been trying to get Isabelle on a schedule so that I have blocks of time to work. She did really well on a schedule two weeks ago, then last week she decided that she no longer wanted to take an afternoon nap…which was planned as my time to sit down and work. It’ll also be interesting because I have to “wear” Izzy during the day, which makes it hard to take phone calls, because at any second she could burst into tears. (That actually happened on Friday when I was on the phone and I had to hang up on the person!)
I am learning how to really multi-task. I have my computer set up in the nursery so that I can check email while I’m feeding or rocking Izzy, and just yesterday I was wearing Izzy, cooking dinner, watching TV and talking on the phone at the same time =)
Tax Time: Part 2
Yesterday I met with our accountant to talk about our taxes and what to do for our taxes in 2008. I learned that first of all, having a baby is a great tax deduction! Second of all, I learned that if Isabelle had been born in December of 2007, we would have been able to claim her as a tax deduction for last year and save literally THOUSANDS in taxes cutting our end of the year bill by more than half. Now that’s one expensive baby!
Pack Mule
Today Isabelle and I had an outing at the mall to pick up a few things. It was quite the adventure since, I couldn’t use the stroller and car seat I have to go through the mall with Izzy. In the mall I saw every other parent pushing their child in a stroller, but not me. I went walking through the mall with Izzy in front in the sling, and my hip-pack diaper bag strapped to my back, all the while thinking, “Wow, this is what a pack mule must feel like!” Needless to say I got starred at quite a bit!
One of the things I picked up was some fabric to make a baby wrap/carrier as a back up to the sling I already have. I had seen these wraps online and at Babies’ R Us ranging anywhere from $35-$105 and when looking at them it’s really just one big long piece of fabric. So I though…why not just buy the fabric from a fabric store, and make one myself! If you’re looking to make a baby wrap like this, all you need is 5 yards of fabric that is 20 inches wide and is either 100% cotton or 95% cotton and 5% spandex. You can either hem the edges or if you’re like me, leave them un-hemmed. Then just look online for directions on ways to wear the wrap and you’re good to go! I like my wrap, and more importantly Izzy likes the wrap.
Tax Time
It’s tax time again. That horrid part of the year where you wait on pins and needles for your accountant to tell you how much you owe the government then cringe when you finally write that check. I gotta tell ya…I still think the government is stealing our hard earned money. Well, at least this year I’m not writing as big of a check to the government as I did last year. That’s the only positive that I see!
