Splash Park
All the splash parks and pools in Fort Collins opened up this past weekend. Since yesteray was nice I took Izzy to her favorite park which also has a splash pad. She LOVED it!
Memorial Day Weekend
For the holiday weekend we drove down to Colorado Springs to visit with my parents. It seems like all we do when my family gets together is eat! It’s part of our culture…eat good food with great company. So in Chinese tradition we had a delicious home cooked dinner on Saturday evening, then on Sunday went for brunch at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort which has amazing views of the mountain range and finally had a great Thai meal at a new cafe. On Monday we met up with Nate in Boulder for another good Chinese meal and for some shopping at the mall.
Izzy got some more cute dresses made by Grandma Low (one of which is the green dress she’s wearing in the pictures) and a toy dog with a leash that she now drags around the house.
I can’t believe how much Izzy is learning and becoming more of a little girl. She will find her bear, shoes and dog if I ask her where they are and bring them to me. She’ll kiss her stuffed animals and give them a pat on the back. She loves collecting things and putting them into her cart to push around the house. She is always on the go, she won’t sit still unless she’s strapped into something!
Izzy somehow figured out how to turn on Grandpa Low’s computer when he turned it off. Her words include: moma, dada, dogh, cheese, shoes, see, nana (for banana). She’s also doing better at signing and waves hi and bye, signs milk, please, more, all done and eat. Now she’s learning to open doors, so it’s time to do a little more childproofing around the house.
Coming Closer
Our new house is coming so much closer to being done and it’s so fun to see how everything that we picked out months ago is coming together. So far everything looks great together! There is now paint on the walls, all the tile is installed, granite countertops are in, and the lights are all installed. We were over there today peeking to see how everything was looking. Here are some pictures.
Here’s an update on our move. We are not going to be homeless for a couple weeks. The owners of our rental house agreed to extend our lease until the day we close on our new house. I pleaded with them to let us stay at least one more day so that it would make packing and moving easier, but they need to sell this rental and would like us out as soon as possible.
So, to make things a little easier, we’re hiring a moving company to load and unload. We’ll move everything out the day before closing and store it with the moving company, then unload the day we close. We’ll stay in a hotel for one night that we we can clean the rental house when it’s empty. It’s going to be a couple crazy days for sure! Our closing date still remains on June 19. Let’s pray that it stays there or moves forward a couple days!
Little Monkey
Izzy is starting to learn how to climb on things and into things. It scares me a little because she really has no fear and no idea how much she could hurt herself. Good thing I just got certified in first aid. I can already see the bumps, bruises and blood coming…
This weekend we finally switched Izzy’s car seat to forward facing. She’s loving the new view, but loves her dog/backpack/child leash even more.
Mother’s Day Weekend
For Mother’s Day this year I asked for a “day off”. Being a mom is the most demanding, tiring, yet rewarding job. You are on call 24 hours of the day and hold many positions which include things like janitor, laundromat, nutritionist, short-order cook, and a human jungle gym. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a mom to Izzy, but having a little time away to gain some perspective and rest is very much needed.
So for the first time in 15 months, I took 31 hours off from being “mommy”! Luke was charged with Izzy for the weekend and Michelle and I headed off to Denver for a day of shopping and a great dinner. Originally we were going to go to Estes Park, but after discovering that the hotel we were going to stay at was in the movie “The Shining” and actually inspired the Stephen King book, plans were changed! ”The Shining” is the only horror movie I’ve seen in full and I did not want to relive it…in person!
We checked into the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Denver on Saturday night and was amazed at the level of service and how nice the room and bathroom was. On Sunday morning we ordered brunch to be delivered to our room, then checked into the spa at the hotel for a relaxing massage and time in their spa facilities.
We drove back to Fort Collins later that afternoon and joined Izzy and Luke for a late dinner. I think Luke did great with Izzy over the weekend. She was in one piece when I returned and didn’t even want to come to me! She wanted to see Michelle first.
Overall, it was an amazing and much needed break that I think should become a regular occurrence =) Michelle has all the pictures to document our weekend, so I’ll post some once I get them.
Congratulations!
My little brother Nate graduated this weekend from Colorado University in Boulder with a Bachelors of Arts in Integrated Physiology. Nate still has more school ahead of him to get into the medical field, but at least his undergrad is done with.
The whole Low family made the drive up to Boulder for Nate’s graduation. We were excited to spend more time with Grandma and Grandpa Low. After the ceremony we had lunch and went back to Grandma and Grandpa Low’s hotel so that Izzy could burn off some energy in the pool.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there who sacrifice their time, bodies, and sanity to give life to and raise their children. Motherhood is harder than it looks! Tomorrow my sister Michelle and I are heading out for a full day and night of adult girl time. Luke booked us a hotel in Estes Park for the night and massages on Mother’s Day. Luke and Izzy will drive up on Sunday afternoon to join us for a late lunch. I’m so looking forward to this “time off”!
